Common questions from universities and higher education providers
What can your higher education writers and editors help with?
We help with the thinking behind your communications and the
words people actually read. That includes
messaging and positioning,
content strategy,
website content,
course guides, research stories, annual reports, impact
reporting and donor communications. We can take on a defined
project or support your team across a series of publications.
Can you help us attract prospective students?
Yes. We write course pages, faculty websites, guides and
campaign content around the questions prospective students
need answered: what they’ll learn, what studying with you
involves, where it could lead and how to apply. We can also
develop content for parents, teachers and careers advisers,
and explain access pathways in clear, inclusive language.
We work with your marketing team and other agencies so the
content supports your recruitment strategy and campaigns.
How do you make academic research accessible without losing its substance?
We review the source material, interview your researchers
and establish what the intended audience needs to understand.
We explain the significance of the work while preserving
its evidence, qualifications and limitations.
Your specialists review the technical detail. Our job is
to make their expertise clear and engaging without
overstating what the research establishes.
Can you manage reports with multiple contributors and reviewers?
Yes. We agree the structure, responsibilities and approval
process early, then bring contributions into a consistent
voice and narrative. We identify missing information,
raise questions about evidence and work through consolidated
stakeholder feedback.
Depending on the scope, we can also coordinate design,
student interviews, proofreading and final publication
files. Our UNSW impact-reporting work has involved
these tasks across successive editions.
Can you work with a faculty, school or research centre directly?
Yes. We can work with an individual team or across the
institution. We establish how the project fits your
university’s positioning, style and approval requirements,
and involve central marketing or communications colleagues
where needed.
Can you help with donor communications and cases for support?
Yes. We help develop
cases for support, donor
proposals and partnership pitches. We clarify the need,
explain the proposed work and show what a contribution
could make possible, using evidence and stories that
connect with the intended supporter.
We work with your advancement or fundraising team to
reflect the audience, relationship and purpose of
the communication.
Who will actually work on our project?
Our work is led by Ralph Grayden and Emma Sorensen.
Ralph specialises in strategy, messaging and complex
content; Emma brings particular expertise in editorial
strategy, interviews, institutional storytelling and
impact reporting.
We agree who will be involved at the outset. The senior
people shaping the project remain involved through
drafting, review and delivery.
How do you handle unpublished research, sensitive information and AI?
We agree confidentiality and information-handling
requirements before receiving sensitive material and
are happy to sign an NDA. Unpublished research, identifiable
student information and other confidential material
do not go into public AI tools.
We use AI selectively for supporting tasks, with human
review and within agreed boundaries. Experienced people
lead strategy, messaging, interpretation and final
editorial decisions. We also agree consent and review
arrangements for interviews and personal stories.
Can you train academics and professional staff?
Yes. Our writing and AI training
helps teams write clearly for different audiences,
structure reports and explain complex ideas. AI workshops
cover practical drafting workflows alongside verification,
confidentiality and editorial judgement.
We tailor the training to participants’ roles and the
documents they actually produce.
How much does it cost, and how long does it take?
We agree a scope and fixed fee before starting. The cost
depends on the source material, interviews, deliverables,
production requirements and review process.
We plan the schedule around your deadline and the time
your stakeholders need to contribute and approve.
A single article is a different undertaking from a
multi-contributor impact report or faculty website,
so we’ll explain what’s achievable when we scope
the work.
