We help organisations find the real reason clients choose them.

Most organisations that struggle to get their message across don't have a knowledge problem. They have a problem explaining why someone should care.

They know their subject matter. They understand their audience. But somewhere between what they know and what they say, the message gets complicated, qualified and diluted - until the people who should be persuaded aren't, and the opportunities that should be won are lost.

That's where Antelope Media comes in.

We help sophisticated organisations find the narratives, words, stories and ideas that make their value clear. Then we build the frameworks that keep those ideas consistent and effective across every proposal, website, pitch, article, video and stakeholder communication.

With backgrounds in law, journalism, academia and global advertising, we combine the high-level experience, strategic interrogation, editorial judgement and deep subject-matter that turn your expertise into influence.

When clients contact us

When you know you need our messaging strategy services

The problem often becomes obvious when you have to explain what you do, how you help or why you're different and you can't find the right words.

01

We sound exactly like everyone else.

The website says you’re experienced, innovative and committed to your clients. And your competitors' websites say the same thing too. We find the specific thinking, strengths and evidence that make your point of difference obvious.

02

We ask five people what we do and we get five different answers.

Each team explains the business through its own work and POV. We bring those perspectives together into a clear account of what the organisation does, who it helps and why that matters.

03

We’ve changed. The story hasn’t.

The organisation has grown, merged, shifted direction or taken on more ambitious work. Its old description still follows it around. We work out what the business has become and give people the language to explain it.

04

People value our work, but struggle to explain why.

The real value sits in your judgement, approach or expertise, but your messaging lists services and outputs. We get beneath what you deliver to show the difference your work makes.

05

Every new pitch starts the story from scratch.

The website, proposals and presentations each make a slightly different case. We establish the central argument and supporting messages so teams can adapt them to the opportunity without reinventing them each time.

06

The safe version keeps winning the internal debate.

Everyone agrees the current language is bland. Then review rounds remove anything distinctive. We test the claims, find what can be defended and help stakeholders agree on words they’re willing to stand behind.

Recognise the problem?

Tell us where your current messaging falls short. We’ll help you work out what needs to change and what your organisation can credibly say instead.

Our messaging strategy services

We work out what makes your organisation worth choosing, what you can credibly claim and how to make that case wherever people encounter you.

Why Antelope Media

We find the difference you can actually defend

Strong messaging has to do more than sound distinctive in a presentation. It has to be true, important to the people you want to reach and survive contact with the rest of the organisation.

01

We get beneath the familiar claims

We interview the people who know the work, examine what clients actually buy and look for the detail competitors can’t easily claim. That’s where useful positioning comes from (not another workshop that ends with “experienced, innovative and client-focused”).

02

We make the argument hold up

A bold line is no use if your people can’t explain or substantiate it. We test proposed messages against your expertise, evidence, audiences and constraints, then work through competing stakeholder views to arrive at a position the organisation can stand behind.

03

We take it beyond the messaging document

The people who develop the strategy can also write the website, service pages, pitches and other content that puts it to work. The central argument stays intact while the language changes to suit each audience and situation.

Who leads the work

Senior people doing the thinking and the writing

Antelope Media’s content engagements are led by founders Ralph Grayden and Emma Sorensen: senior strategists, copywriters and content designers with backgrounds spanning law, journalism, academia, publishing and global advertising.

Ralph is a former commercial lawyer turned journalist, advertising copywriter and content strategist. He specialises in work where the subject is complex, the audience is demanding and the consequences of misunderstanding it are real.

Emma is an experienced journalist, editor and university educator with particular expertise in interviews, institutional storytelling, research and impact reporting. She turns evidence and human experience into coherent narratives that retain both accuracy and emotional force.

Depending on the engagement, they work individually, together or with other writers: directly with leadership teams, subject-matter experts and internal communications teams. There are no layers of account management and no handover to juniors.

Our process: Thinking before writing

Every engagement follows the same principle: understand the issue before writing the content.

Intake & Discovery

We interrogate your documents and analyse what you're saying now.

The working session

A focused, intensive session built around the questions your audience is really asking. We challenge assumptions, extract your thinking and find the real gold.

Analysis & Synthesis

We step back, deconstruct the complexity and begin building your story and your case.

Direction check

A check-in before we get too deep to explain our rationale so we're on the same page.

Delivery & Activation

We walk you through your strategy to show you how and why it works, leaving you with the full document and a short "strategy on page".

Confidential by default. Happy to sign an MNDA on request. All outputs are yours on payment.

Frequently asked questions about messaging strategy

What the work involves, what you receive and how we get from competing opinions to a message your organisation can use.

What is a messaging strategy?

A messaging strategy establishes what your organisation should say about itself, why that matters to the people you want to reach and what evidence supports it. It connects your positioning to the language used on your website, in pitches, presentations and other communications.

It is more than a tagline or a set of preferred words. It gives your people a shared argument they can adapt to different audiences without telling a different story every time.

How do you find what makes us different?

We start with what your people know, what clients value and what your competitors already claim. We interview the people close to the work, examine existing communications and look for specific strengths you can demonstrate through your approach, experience, results or expertise.

Sometimes the difference is already there but buried under generic language. Sometimes it takes a harder conversation about where you should focus and what you should stop claiming.

What is a messaging framework, and what do we receive?

A messaging framework records the position you want to occupy, the central case for choosing you, the messages that support it and the evidence behind those messages. It can also show how to adapt the language for different audiences, services and situations.

The exact deliverables depend on the engagement. We agree them before starting, and can take the work further into website copy, service descriptions, pitches or other content if you need us to.

What if our leadership team disagrees about the message?

That is often why we are brought in. Different leaders see different strengths, clients and opportunities. We make those views explicit, test them against the audience and the available evidence, and help the group decide what the organisation should lead with.

The aim is not to write a sentence broad enough to satisfy everyone. It is to reach a position people understand, can defend and will actually use.

How is a messaging consultant different from a brand agency?

Brand agencies can work on messaging as well as identity, so the distinction depends on the agency. Our work concentrates on the organisation’s position, argument and words: what you can credibly stand for and how to express it to the people you need to influence.

We can work alongside a design or brand team, or develop the messaging before a website or identity project begins.

When is Done in a Day the right approach?

Done in a Day is our focused messaging sprint. It suits a defined problem that needs a decision quickly: for example, sharpening an offer, settling a core message or getting aligned before a website or pitch moves forward.

A broader positioning challenge involving several audiences, business units or decision-makers may need more research and consultation. We’ll recommend the scope that fits the problem.

How long does messaging work take, and what does it cost?

Done in a Day messaging sprints start from $4,395 + GST. Larger positioning and messaging projects are quoted as fixed-fee engagements after we understand the scope, stakeholders and deliverables.

Timing depends on the decisions involved and how quickly the right people can review the work. If you have a launch, pitch or other fixed deadline, we’ll work backwards from it and tell you what is achievable.

Who leads Antelope Media’s messaging strategy work?

Ralph Grayden, Antelope Media’s founder and principal, leads the work. Ralph is a former commercial lawyer who went on to work in publishing, content strategy and copywriting for global advertising agencies.

He works directly with your team to test the argument, handle difficult subject matter and turn the agreed position into words you can use.
