Messaging strategy for
law firms

Positioning, content & messaging strategy for commercial, boutique and mid-tier law firms. We capture what really makes your firm different in words that connect with clients and referrers.

Sydney, Melbourne and nationally.

Most law firms aren't the same.
They just sound like they are.

"Commercial expertise". "Deep industry knowledge". "Trusted advisers". "A partner-led approach".

"All aspects of [insert practice area]".

"Practical, commercial advice".

When every firm uses the same language to describe itself, genuine differences disappear. Clients are left to choose based on existing relationships, price and whatever little they can distinguish between you.

That's where Antelope Media comes in.

We help commercial, boutique and mid-tier law firms make their value immediately clear with narratives, words, stories and ideas that stand out. Then we build the frameworks that keep those ideas consistent and effective across every communication - including websites, tenders, proposals, articles, videos, newsletters and reports.

When law firms call us about messaging strategy

Usually, something has changed or the old story has gone stale.

We know we’re different. We just can’t explain why

The firm has genuine strengths, but they disappear into the same language every competitor uses. We uncover the differences clients actually value and give you the words to describe them.

Our website is being rebuilt and we don’t want to rewrite the same old story

A new site is the obvious moment to decide what the firm really stands for, who it wants to attract and what it should be known for before anyone starts writing pages.

Different partners describe the firm in completely different ways

Everyone has their own version of the story. We create an agreed messaging framework that gives the firm consistency without making every lawyer sound identical.

We’re entering a new market, sector or practice area

Growth creates a messaging problem: why should this audience believe you belong here? We help build the positioning, proof and narrative needed to establish credibility.

We’ve changed. Our message hasn’t

The firm has grown, merged, changed leadership, shifted its client base or moved upmarket, but its positioning still describes the business it used to be.

We’re publishing constantly, but it isn’t building our reputation

Articles, updates and LinkedIn posts keep going out, but there’s no clear idea connecting them. We align content around the work you want to win, the expertise you want to be known for and the audiences you need to reach.

The messaging work we do for law firms

We help law firms, barristers’ chambers and legal-sector businesses work out what they want to be known for, how to express it and how to carry that message consistently across their website, pitches, thought leadership and other communications.

Market positioning

We help you answer the question every client implicitly asks: why you rather than another firm? That means identifying the work you want to win, the clients you want to attract, the strengths that genuinely distinguish you and the evidence that makes those strengths believable.

Messaging frameworks

We turn the positioning into a practical set of agreed messages your firm can use consistently across websites, tenders, capability statements, client communications and thought leadership. The aim is not to make everyone sound identical, but to stop every team reinventing the firm’s story from scratch.

Content strategy

We decide which ideas are worth expressing, who should own them, which audiences need to hear them and what those audiences should understand or do next. The result is a content strategy built around the reputation you want and the work you want to win, rather than another generic publishing calendar.

Brand voice

We define how your firm should sound, then turn that into practical guidance your lawyers and marketing team can actually use. That means choosing the right tone, vocabulary and level of formality, and creating clear principles that keep your communications recognisably yours without making every lawyer sound the same.

Why law firms choose Antelope Media

The people you meet do the work

No juniors. No account managers. No bait-and-switch. The people you meet are the people who do the work, bringing decades of experience across strategy, writing and communications.

You only explain things once

Our principal, Ralph Grayden practised at a top-tier international firm before becoming a strategist and copywriter. You explain things once, not on repeat.

Strategy doesn't disappear on handover

The same people who define your message go on to write your website, thought leadership and pitches - so nothing gets lost in the handoff.

Thinking before writing

Our guiding principle when we work with lawyers: understand the issue before writing the content.

Discovery & Due diligence

We interrogate your documents and your existing message(s).

The working session

A focused, intensive session built around the questions your audience actually asks. We challenge assumptions, extract your thinking and find the hidden gold.

Analysis & Synthesis

We step back, deconstruct the complexity and begin building your firm or practice group's story and your case.

Direction check

A check-in before we get too deep to explain our rationale so we're on the same page.

Delivery & Activation

We walk you through your strategy to show you how and why it works, leaving you with the full document and a short "one page strategy".

Confidential by default. Happy to sign an NDA on request. All outputs are yours on payment.

What our legal clients say

“[Ralph] was able to bring fresh ideas to the project, absorb and organise large amounts of complex information… His insights, creativity, business knowledge and impeccable writing style greatly contributed to the success of the portal.”

Common questions about messaging strategy for law firms

How is this different from a rebrand?

A rebrand changes how you look. Messaging strategy changes what you say and why anyone should believe it. It can happen entirely separately from a visual refresh, or feed directly into one if you’re doing both.

We already have a tagline and a “why us” page. Isn’t that our messaging?

Usually not. Most firms have marketing copy but not an underlying messaging framework, which is why the copy can end up sounding like every other firm’s. We build the framework first; the copy that comes from it is what creates consistency and differentiation.

Do you use AI in this work, and is that safe for a law firm?

We use AI selectively, under human supervision, and never for the judgement calls. We never trust AI with Critical Content: positioning, messaging and anything carrying reputational risk is always led by an experienced consultant.

No confidential or privileged material goes into public AI tools, and nothing is published that a senior writer hasn’t settled.

Will this work within legal advertising restrictions?

Yes. We develop messaging with relevant legal advertising and professional obligations in mind, and avoid claims that are difficult to substantiate or likely to create unnecessary risk. Where a firm has specific regulatory or jurisdictional requirements, we work with its legal or compliance team to make sure the final wording is appropriate.

Can you work with confidential positioning discussions, such as an upcoming merger?

Yes. Confidentiality is assumed, and we’re happy to sign an NDA and run a conflicts check before anything is shared.

How long does it take, and what does it cost?

Messaging sprints through our Done in a Day format start from $4,395 + GST. More comprehensive messaging engagements usually take two to four weeks, depending on the number of stakeholders, audiences and practice areas involved. We quote a fixed fee once we understand the scope.

What do we actually get at the end?

You leave with a practical messaging framework, not a strategy document that sits in a folder. Depending on the engagement, that can include your positioning, core messages, audience-specific messages, proof points, brand voice principles and guidance on how the messaging should be used across your website, pitches, thought leadership and other communications.

Who needs to be involved?

Usually a small group of senior stakeholders is enough: the managing partner or CEO, the marketing or BD lead and, where relevant, practice or sector leaders. We do the synthesis, so you don’t need every partner in every meeting.

Do you also write the content that comes out of this?

Yes. We can turn the messaging framework into legal content and copywriting, website copywriting, pitches and proposals and other communications, so the words stay consistent wherever they’re used.
